Local Beaches

Torquay:

Torre Abbey Beach – This sandy beach is situated over the road from Torre Abbey Green and Torre Abbey Historical House and visitors centre, with crazy golf, tennis, bowls and the English Riviera leisure centre and fun pool within a minutes’ walk. 

Meadfoot Beach – A long, sandy award-winning Blue Flag beach around the coast from Torquay harbour towards Thatcher Point. There are good facilities including a café, toilets, limited parking and scenic coastal walks. 

Babbacombe Beach – Located a steep descent from Babbacombe village (cliff railway available) but extremely picturesque with good amenities including an excellent pub/restaurant right on the beach. Babbacombe village is a 5-minute drive from Torquay. 

Paignton:

Broadsands – Another award-winning Blue Flag beach, consisting of a wide sandy beach with shallow water, it is safe for swimming although most of the beach disappears at high tide. There is also a large grass play/picnic area with access to coastal walks and open areas. Facilities include limited water sports, beach café, toilets, plenty of parking. To find the beach turn off the pain Paignton to Brixham road at Churston shops, following the road to the bottom of the hill under the railway viaduct. 

Elberry Cove – A pebble beach with no facilities which is mainly used for water skiing etc. There is no vehicular access, just the coastal walk from either Fishcombe or Broadsands.

Goodrington Beach – A safe sandy beach available at all tides, with full facilities, attractions, pubs, toilets, water sports and cafés. The beach is adjacent to the popular Splashdown Water Park & Go Karts in Goodrington Park. 

Paignton Beach – A long sandy beach in front of Paignton green with excellent facilities. It becomes very busy in the summer with donkey rides, fun fairs and attractions along the pier. 

Preston Sands – A sandy beach located at the north end of Paignton with rock pools. Along the back of the beach, it is lined with colourful beach huts which you can hire for the day. 

Brixham:

St Mary’s Bay – A beautiful sand & pebble bay but reached by about a hundred steps and a steep path. Shoreline varies with tides. No facilities. Park at Sharkham Point car park. 

Fishcombe Cove – A very busy pebble beach in season but a very pretty cove with safe swimming (with care), a café, toilets & parking. Accessed by a steep walk. 

Breakwater Beach – Pebble beach near Brixham marina. The beach offers clean and safe swimming (with care), a café, toilets & parking. A popular choice with scuba divers. 

Shoalstone – Free open-air sea filled swimming pool which is staffed between 10.00am – 18.00pm during peak season. There is also a rocky beach, café, toilets & parking. It is located further along from Breakwater Beach on Berry Head Road, just before Berry Head Hotel.
